There is no other news big enough to top this story. Microsoft corp has bid more than 42 billion dollars to buy out search giant yahoo.com - a huge number by any means. This news is related to just how big of a threat Microsoft seems to think Google is. By all means, it is somewhat known by now that Google is making sure to cripple Microsoft slowly and surely. First with Google Docs now working offline, the Google Desktop Search and everything else Google does, they are making sure to cripple Microsoft in any means they can. Lets not forget a (somewhat failed attempt) at Instant Messaging as well. So, it seems that Microsoft’s bid to buy YAHOO! corp will allow them to “gang up” on the search giant Google.

I just finished talking on the phone to one of my friends about the issue. I noted how Microsoft is used to people being “forced” to use their products. Everyone uses Word, your stuck buying it. Everyone uses Windows, its pretty standard to buy it. (business wise). Microsoft is used to people buying their stuff, no matter what. They took the same style when they made Live search. Live search is the opposite of what people want in a search engine. A barrage of annoyingly and utterly frustrating results. And, to prove my point at their attitude, a quote on the footer of the search page.

Are you satisfied with Live Search? Tell us about it.

Does dis-satisfaction not count?

Microsoft is chugging down along the windy road of failure. The Zune, MSN Spaces, Vista, they are all complete failures.

3. Vista. Here’s the biggest Albatross of all - and it’s a big one. I’ll not spend a lot of ink…characters here on Vista, because most neutral observers realize what a problem Vista is to Microsoft. Will Vista turn a profit? Almost certainly - but it will be a pyrrhic profit - over the next few years people’s frustration with Vista and its performance problems and many aggravations will lead to a steady trickle of consumers who will patronize Apple (or even Linux) for the first time. And once you go Apple…you never go back. :) Did you know, by the way, that Windows XP is twice as fast as Vista?

Microsoft’s OS dominance, much like Yahoo’s portal dominance of only a few years ago, is slipping, and will likely continue slipping.

Could not have said it better myself. Microsoft is making a last-ditch effort to pull themselves out of the huge hole they dug into. And dont even get me started on privacy issues.

Most experts agree that odds are YAHOO! will come to terms and agree to the full scale buyout, including flickr. Thats right, your Flickr will be owned by Microsoft. Same with your Geocities. All of it.

Flickr? My Flickr? Yes. Your Flickr. Another thing that a few people are expecting will be microsoft making another attempt to overthrow Apple in the music industry. I dont see it happening with a buyout of YAHOO!, regardless of the fact they run a music service.

*sigh* I guess we are all going to just have to sit back and watch this play out.
